Things to Do in Madisonville, TX: Shopping, Dining & Relaxation

Things to Do in Madisonville, TX Shopping, Dining & Relaxation

Sitting right between Houston and Dallas along I-45, Madisonville is easy to pass through on your way to somewhere else. But take the exit, slow down for a while, and you may find there is more here than you expected.

Instead of making Madisonville a quick stop, stay awhile. Book a full-hookup RV site or glamping-style cabin at Yuletide RV Park and turn your visit into a weekend of shopping, good food, time outside, and a little room to relax.

Whether you’re passing through on a Texas road trip or planning a weekend away, here are a few of our favorite things to do in Madisonville, TX.

Shopping in Madisonville, TX

Small-town shopping is part of the fun here. Instead of spending the afternoon going from one big-box store to another, you can browse local boutiques, hunt for something unexpected, and find a few places that are uniquely Madisonville.

Madisonville Christmas Company

We might be a little biased, but this one deserves a spot at the top of the list.

Located right next door to Yuletide RV Park, Madisonville Christmas Company is much more than somewhere to pick up an ornament on your way through town. The massive Christmas destination is filled with designer-curated trees, ornaments, ribbon, wreaths, garlands, gifts, seasonal décor, and immersive displays designed to give you plenty of inspiration for your own home.

Take your time walking through the different collections, find an ornament to remember your trip, or start planning this year’s Christmas tree before anyone else has even thought about pulling theirs out of the attic.

And yes, you absolutely can spend longer here than you planned.

Shopping in Downtown Madisonville

Once you’ve gotten your Christmas shopping fix, head into downtown Madisonville and see what else you can find. The area around the historic courthouse square is home to locally owned boutiques, gift shops, and small businesses that are worth slowing down for.

Stop into Heart to Heart for fresh flowers, gifts, home décor, and seasonal finds. Browse the clothing and accessories at Sono Briele Boutique, or pop into Mule Barn for women’s clothing, accessories, gifts, and plenty of Texas-inspired style.

Places to Eat in Madisonville, TX

Exploring is considerably more fun when you plan your day around where you’re going to eat next.

Madisonville has everything from casual comfort foods to craft cocktails and small-town favorites.

The Mantel

If you’re already shopping at Madisonville Christmas Company or staying at Yuletide, The Mantel makes dinner particularly easy.

Located on the Madisonville Christmas Company property, The Mantel gives you a place to sit down for dinner and drinks without having to venture far from your RV or cabin site. Catch a game, order a festive cocktail, and settle in.

Mallett Brothers Barbeque

You can’t put together a list of places to eat in a small Texas town without making room for barbecue.

Mallett Brothers Barbeque is a family-owned and operated barbecue restaurant with a Madisonville location on East Main Street. The menu covers the Texas barbecue essentials, including sliced and chopped beef, pulled pork, sausage, ribs, turkey, and chicken, along with sandwiches, meat-loaded baked potatoes, and plenty of classic sides.

If your ideal road-trip meal involves smoked meat, mac and cheese, fried okra, and cobbler before getting back to the day’s plans, this is an easy stop to work into your Madisonville itinerary.

Walker’s Cafe

For a classic small-town meal, head toward the courthouse square and Walker’s Cafe.

Walker’s is the kind of casual café that fits naturally into a morning or afternoon spent exploring downtown. Stop in for breakfast or settle in for Southern comfort food before heading back out to shop and explore.

Texas Legends Steakhouse

If you’re looking for somewhere to sit down for a heartier lunch or dinner, Texas Legends Steakhouse is another downtown option.

Located right on the courthouse square, this family-owned steakhouse serves steaks and Texas-style comfort food in the middle of historic Madisonville. It also has a full bar, making it an easy choice when you’d rather make dinner part of the night’s plans instead of grabbing something on the go.

Lalo’s Mexican Grill

Sometimes tacos and a margarita are exactly what a vacation day calls for.

Lalo’s Mexican Grill is another local option to add to your Madisonville food list when you’re craving Mexican and Tex-Mex favorites. Stop in for lunch while you’re exploring town or make it an easy, casual dinner before heading back to Yuletide for the evening.

Activities in Madisonville, TX

Lake Madison

At 75 acres, Lake Madison offers plenty of ways to enjoy a slower afternoon outside.

Bring your fishing gear and try for bass or catfish, take a walk, pack a picnic, or simply find somewhere to sit and enjoy the view. Lake Madison sits within the larger Lake Madison Park, where families will also find playgrounds and other recreational areas.

You don’t necessarily have to devote an entire day to it, either. A couple of hours outside between shopping and dinner can be just enough.

Fannin Oaks Golf Course

If your version of relaxing involves a set of golf clubs, you can fit in a round without giving up your whole day.

Fannin Oaks Golf Course is a nine-hole course right here in Madisonville, complete with a driving range if you would rather just hit a bucket of balls. It’s an easy addition to a laid-back weekend: play nine in the morning, grab some lunch afterward, and still have most of the day ahead of you.

Bray’s Motor Museum & Playground

You don’t have to be a serious car enthusiast to have fun wandering around Bray’s.

Bray’s Motor Museum & Playground is home to a collection of more than 100 classic cars, trucks, motorcycles, and boats, giving visitors a chance to see vehicles from decades past all in one place. There’s even a Lego museum to explore.

It’s a little unexpected, a lot of fun to look through, and exactly the kind of stop that makes you realize there is more to Madisonville than you might notice from I-45.

Something about history buffs. Located in downtown Madisonville, the museum preserves pieces of the county’s history through photographs, artifacts, documents, and exhibits covering the people and events that helped shape the community.

Pair it with a stroll around the historic downtown square, a little shopping, and lunch nearby, and you’ve got an easy morning in Madisonville before heading back to Yuletide for the afternoon.

Mudbug & Music Festival

Spring brings another excuse to get outside and celebrate.
